HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

In the year 2002, Siraj House Society (Trust), a philanthropic and public-spirited organization of Lahore, decided to establish a school in one of the peripheral areas of the town where no educational institution worthy of note existed. Shad Bagh, a congested suburban township of Northern Lahore, was the area selected for establishing the proposed school. It was largely due to the Trustees’ honesty of purpose and firm resolve that all prerequisites like mobilizing of adequate financial resources and finding a plot spacious enough for meeting the multiple needs of an educational institution were finalized within a short span of time.

In actual fact, the plot, which was purchased by venerable Sheikh Fazal Elahi Akbar in 1976, was later donated by him to Siraj House Society, a Trust founded in the name of his illustrious father, Sheikh Siraj-ud-Din Ahmad. The school was named as Akbari Public School, replicating the name of trustees’ vast and prestigious business enterprise the ‘Akbari Stores’.

The school started functioning with effect from 1st January, 2004 in a custom-made triple-storey building which was designed and constructed by architects and engineers of considerable standing. Thanks to the sagacious and futuristic planning of the trustees, the initial school building consisted of 60 classrooms, Science Lab, Library, Art/Activity Room, Administration Block, Dispensary, Canteen and the School Mosque was made ready for school operations. The year 2010 witnessed another landmark advance in the infra-structure: Amin Block, a semi-detached yet independent campus was added to facilitate our female students.

By the year 2012 due to ever-increasing enrolments, addition of yet another floor to the existing school building had become an inescapable necessity. This floor of eleven classrooms was added in 2013 and with it came the much- needed multipurpose hall, named as Zulqurnain Hall. This fully airconditioned and centrally heated facility is now being extensively used for co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, extension lectures as well as round the year school-level in-service training programmes. In short, Akbari Public School which had started operating in 2004 with less than one hundred students and a handful of teachers, has today become the most credible school in the vicinity. APS pride itself on imparting quality education to over 1700 students under the tutelage of 105 appropriately qualified teachers. Indeed. it is  a shining and vibrant example of the Trustees’ social commitment and exceptional generosity.
